Join us in our mission to provide affordable housing, legal aid, and support services to those in need. Together, we can create a sustainable and secure future for our community.
Our Journey and Mission
Founded in Maryland in July 1988, A Face Within The Crowd was built on a simple but powerful belief: every person deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and given the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity. For more than three decades, our organization has remained committed to serving individuals and families facing some of life’s greatest challenges through compassion, respect, and community support.
In January 2024, we proudly expanded our outreach to Las Vegas, Nevada, allowing us to extend our mission and provide vital services to communities in both Maryland and Nevada. While our locations have grown, our purpose has remained the same—to meet people where they are, offer hope during difficult times, and help create pathways toward stability and independence.
A Face Within The Crowd is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization. Every program, outreach effort, and community initiative is made possible through the dedication of individuals who generously volunteer their time, talents, and hearts. Because our organization operates solely through volunteer services, financial donations and in-kind gifts go directly toward helping those who need them most, rather than supporting payroll costs. This allows every contribution to make a meaningful and lasting impact within the communities we serve.
Our mission is to empower vulnerable individuals by providing access to affordable housing resources, legal advocacy, and supportive services for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence. We also proudly serve seniors, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, and families facing financial hardship by connecting them with essential resources, compassionate support, and opportunities to regain stability.
We believe that true change begins when communities come together with empathy instead of judgment. Every person has a story, every life has value, and every act of kindness has the power to change someone’s future. Through collaboration, volunteerism, and the generosity of our supporters, A Face Within The Crowd strives to restore hope, strengthen communities, and ensure that no one has to face hardship alone.
Together, we are more than a nonprofit—we are a community of people committed to making sure every face is seen, every voice is heard, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
Since July 1988, A Face Within The Crowd has proudly served communities for more than 37 years, offering hope, compassion, and support to individuals and families facing difficult times. What began in Maryland has grown into a lifelong commitment to helping people overcome challenges, restore stability, and know they are never alone.
Over the years, we have supported our communities through advocacy, resource navigation, holiday toy drives, fundraising events, and partnerships with organizations such as Catholic Charities and Villa Maria School in Maryland.
In January 2024, we expanded to Las Vegas, Nevada, where we continue our mission by working alongside partners including WestCare and Building Box Sober Living to connect individuals and families with the resources and support they need. As a volunteer-driven nonprofit, every donation and gift goes directly back into the communities we serve, helping us make a lasting difference—one person, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
Since our founding in Maryland in July 1988 and our expansion to Las Vegas, Nevada, in January 2024, A Face Within The Crowd has proudly helped an estimated 74,000 individuals and families in need.
Maryland (1988–2023)
For more than three decades in Maryland, we supported thousands of individuals and families by connecting them with safe housing resources, substance use treatment and recovery services, domestic violence support, employment assistance, and other essential community programs. Our work focused on helping people regain stability, rebuild their lives, and access the support systems they needed to move forward.
Las Vegas, Nevada (2024–Present)
Since expanding to Las Vegas, our mission has continued through daily, hands-on outreach. Our volunteers are on the streets providing direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship. We distribute in-kind donation kits that include hygiene products, clothing, food, and other basic necessities, while also connecting individuals to critical services and resources.
Every person we serve is treated with compassion, dignity, and respect. As a volunteer-powered nonprofit, every donation, gift, and act of kindness goes directly toward helping those in need and strengthening the communities we proudly serve.
At A Face Within The Crowd, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. With a growing network of over 200 dedicated volunteers across Maryland and Las Vegas, Nevada, we can extend our reach and make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
From walking the streets during outreach and distributing essential donation kits to connecting individuals with vital resources and offering a listening ear, our volunteers show up with compassion, consistency, and a true commitment to helping others. Their presence allows us to meet people where they are and provide support when it’s needed most.
Because of their dedication, we can continue our mission while ensuring that every donation goes directly toward helping those in need. Each volunteer represents hope in action—proving that when people come together with purpose, real change happens.

Client Testimonials
Client Testimonial – Mr. Robert S
“My name is Robert, and I’m 72 years old. There was a time when I had lost everything. After losing my home, I spent nearly two and a half years homeless, moving from park to park throughout Las Vegas. My family wanted to help, but my pride kept me from accepting it. I felt alone and didn’t know where to turn.
When I met Ms. Taylor from A Face Within The Crowd, she treated me with kindness and respect. She didn’t judge me—she listened. She helped me replace my identification and Social Security card, connected me with the resources I needed, and guided me through the process of finding safe, affordable permanent housing.
Today, five years later, I’m still living in my own home. More importantly, I know someone genuinely cares. Ms. Taylor still checks on me every week to make sure I’m doing okay. That kind of support means more than words can express.
A Face Within The Crowd didn’t just help me find a place to live—they helped me find hope, stability, and a fresh start. I’ll always be grateful for everything they’ve done for me.”
Testimonial – Ms. Dawn K
“There was a time when I was living on the streets of Las Vegas, struggling with substance use and feeling like I had nowhere to turn. Week after week, Ms. Kia would come out during street outreach to check on me and offer help. She never judged me or pressured me. She simply reminded me that when I was ready, she would be there.
For a long time, I kept saying no. I convinced myself that I was okay, especially because I didn’t want to leave my dog behind. But Ms. Kia never gave up on me.
One day, I finally said yes, and that decision changed my life.
She helped me replace my identification, Social Security card, and birth certificate so I could start rebuilding my future. She found a safe place for my dog to stay while I entered treatment, which gave me the peace of mind I needed to focus on getting clean. She also helped me get into a substance use treatment program, and after I completed it, she continued to stand by my side.
Ms. Kia helped me find a transitional housing program so I wouldn’t have to return to living on the streets. She also connected me with employment opportunities, and today I’m working and rebuilding my life one day at a time.
I’ll never forget that she didn’t give up on me, even when I wasn’t ready to help myself. Her kindness, patience, and belief in me gave me hope when I had lost it. Because someone cared enough to keep showing up, I was given a second chance, and I’ll always be grateful for that.”
Client Success Story – Evan E.
My name is Evan E., and in December 2025, I was living on the streets and struggling with drug addiction. I was using drugs to numb the pain I had been carrying for years. Deep down, I had lost hope that anyone could really help me.
When the outreach team from A Face Within The Crowd came to my encampment, they offered me services, but I turned them down. I had heard promises from other agencies before, and I didn’t believe this time would be any different.
Thankfully, they didn’t give up on me.
When I was finally ready to accept help, Ms. Kia and Ms. Taylor were there without judgment. They made a phone call, arranged transportation to WestCare, and stayed by my side through the process. I completed my intake and entered a 90-day residential substance use treatment program.
Those 90 days changed my life. I faced the pain I had been running from, worked through my personal struggles, and started rebuilding myself one day at a time.
After completing residential treatment, I transitioned into a step-down program. Ms. Kia and Ms. Taylor continued to support me every step of the way. They helped me find employment, replace my important identification documents, connect with stable housing, and reminded me that I was never alone, even on the hard days.
As of June 30, 2026, I am proud to say that I am employed, living in sober housing, and moving forward with my life. One of the happiest moments of my recovery was being reunited with my dog. I missed her every single day, and having her back gave me even more motivation to keep going.
Recovery isn’t easy, but it’s possible when you have people who truly care and refuse to give up on you. A Face Within The Crowd didn’t just help me get off the streets—they helped me believe in myself again. They gave me hope when I had none, and because of them, I’m building a future I never thought was possible.
